Casey raised a critical question: why did NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell advise the popular artist not to incorporate any political messages into his performance, especially when the league previously held moments of silence for the late right-wing activist Charlie Kirk earlier this season?
During a recent press conference, Goodell praised Bad Bunny, stating, "He is one of the great artists in the world, which is one of the reasons we chose him." However, he then emphasized the importance of the Super Bowl as a platform for uniting people rather than fostering political discourse. He remarked, "He understood the platform he was on [at the Grammys] and that this [Super Bowl] platform is used to unite people and to be able to bring people together with their creativity, with their talent, and to be able to use this moment to do that. I think artists in the past have done that, I think Bad Bunny understands that, and I think he’ll have a great performance."
In an interview with Consequence, ahead of their St. Patrick’s Day tour, Casey shared his thoughts on Bad Bunny’s halftime show and Green Day’s performance during the Super Bowl's opening ceremony. He pointed out the hypocrisy in the NFL’s messaging, saying, "I heard the NFL say that it’s not a platform for political discourse and told them not to [get political], but they also made everybody sit through a Charlie Kirk moment of silence. Someone told me you can bet on whether they will, which is just wild."
Casey expressed admiration for Bad Bunny, acknowledging him as a significant American artist. He humorously recalled being introduced to Bad Bunny by his daughter after enjoying his performance in the film Happy Gilmore 2. "I love him. The guy’s the biggest artist in the world, and we should be celebrating it whether you like his music or not," he stated.
Additionally, Casey criticized the counter-programming effort by Turning Point USA, which is organizing an "All-American Halftime Show" featuring Kid Rock, positioned against Bad Bunny’s performance. He challenged those who frequently dismiss others as "snowflakes," declaring, "For people who call others ‘snowflakes’ so much, you are the biggest snowflakes I’ve ever met in my life. Enjoy changing the channel over to watch Kid Rock. I can’t wait to see what the ratings are between Bad Bunny and Kid Rock. Let’s see where Americans are really putting their eyeballs."
